imcb Hmmm. Smile, right? Okay. Smile. If that’s what everyone wants. Well, second day at imcb. First day, dad dropped me off at Newton mrt after dropping my sis at school. Took the trains to buona vista and arrived around 735. Which is early, considering I only have to reach imcb at 825. Anyway, found 2 people from 409 already there. Hmmm. Mengyuan and zhiyi. Waited with them, then Sandra came, last person was yunlin. Walking across the overhead bridge to take the shuttle bus, and alone the way got scolded for blocking the way. Oh well. Waited for the bus, just before it came the rj ppl arrived. Anyway we almost overshot Proteos.. luckily zhiyi asked. When we dropped the rj ppl remained on the bus.. after a long time they decided to get off too -.- hmm waited, then got our tags and went for the briefing. Was quite dry.. the rj guy sitting in front of me was like, tall. Blocked my view sometimes haha. Finally made our way to the lab.. Sandra was talking about how clean the place was. Haha. Anyway, mr yellow shirt(cant spell his name) started pairing us up. And well, he called rgs first -.- after that he followed with acs/jc so we got paired with ac people. Hmmm. My partner’s from acs, sec3 haha. so we started the day off getting to know our partners. For some reason, kahteik was.. er.. quiet. Was quite weird at first, as usual. Then we started looking at the different cells and copying down what they were. The cells are cool haha. there’s stuff like neuro cells, kidney, liver, breast etcetc. From humans, rats, hamsters, dogs, mice. And basically some are diseased cells. Nice. Oh. Sitting at the last bench. With kt, sanny-scgs prefect, and one rj guy. Anyway, went for lunch at 12. We went up the bus, went down, and went up again cause we couldn’t decide where to eat. Haha ended up at a coffeeshop in Holland village or smth. The food there is cheap.. I bought mine for like $1.50 and I couldn’t finish it. And it’s not like I’m a small eater. -.- Went back, then we started growing cells. Basically our bench has this Russian guy helping us.. he’s very nice! Haha. like he shows us the steps and all. Oh well, but of course it’s hard to understand him sometimes, when the becomes ze, that becomes zat. Start of the day he went through with us how to use micropipettes, how to pipette etcetc. Hmm growth procedure was quite easy.. Just adding growth medium, washing and all. Was rather slack.. when we finished we started drawing all over the log book, which we aren’t exactly supposed to do hehe. Oh yah it’s cool to see the detached adherent cells floating in the solution! Haha. After that we cleared up and left.. it was quite early I think. Ah. When we were happily sitting on the bus, the acjc rugby guy asked me if the bus was going to the mrt or nuh. After some doubt he went to ask the uncle.. we were headed for nuh before going back to biopolis. Like.. -.- in the end the uncle said he’d drop us off at moe before turning into biopolis. Haha yup then we walked to the mrt. Oh yah, found out one vj girl is julia’s sis.. we ended up walking back together. Oh and yah the ac guy’s called weiliang. Everytime someone calls him I feel weird and amused. Hmm guess it was a rather easy day. Did I say lunch was 2 hours haha. and yup, fun. Oh yah kt keeps talking to sanny haha. then the rj guy.. I dunno. Seems to talk to sanny only, nvr talks to me and kt. Haha. but yay, fun day. Russian guy not here! Instead some other woman who looks familiar to me came to help us. She dint really show us what to do.. so we were quite confused. And she took for granted we knew what was going on and all lah. >.< halfway through I really got quite irritated, because I ended up following the technical steps without understanding why. Today did a lot more. Basically today’s aim was cell staining. Started off fixing the cells, Natasha helped us pipette the methanol into our well-plates. Cause she was before us, and I was saying smth like the cells are dying. Haha. Halfway through her partner went like eh we still have one more and then everyone was super confused and started laughing.. er. Haha. after that they put their plates into the freezer, so of course me and kt followed lah since we were right behind them. And after we went to take it out, one scientist told us it was supposed to go into the fridge, not freezer. -____- we died laughing. Until jin ngee( sp?) told us to keep our volume down. Hmmm. Once kt was pipette-ing (how to spell) pbscm into the well, then sanny asked him smth, he turned to look at her and pipetted the stuff out of the well. I went wooh and the person helping us went oi. After that she said watch what you’re doing, don’t get distracted by beautiful girls. Ha. The same thing happened again, and kt got niaoed. X) Oh yah on the first day there was once he was surrounded by me, yunlin, Samantha sanny Natasha april. And the 3 scgs were talking to him.. so when mark came over he said wah kt ladies guy ah. Lol. Today I think he talked more. Good. (: Hmm then we had to calculate dilution for triton solution, and obviously I dunno how. Er. Hehe. The rest were either trying to, or didn’t know how to. Asked Natasha and she said her genius partner had the amount. Wasn’t convinced, so he explained to me how he got it. Still dint understand, he asked me to look at it from the mole concept way. My mole concept sucks, so… -.- Hmm prepared the primary antibodies, then supposed to incubate cover slips for one hour. We left for lunch, this time ac asked if we wanted to eat with them. In the end jin ngee brought us to tanglin halt through this long stretch of road. The food was.. okay. Hmm after that we sat there talking. Can’t imagine weiliang as a doctor.. haha. Walked back, still had time left. Listened to jin ngee talk about a lot of stuff.. and gm food too. Like the big picture, what it does etc. guess it makes sense. Started lab work again, this time our Russian teacher was back. Haha we were like going yay. Anyway he helped us through, when we were waiting for the cells to wash or incubate he taught us the answers to the questions, answered our qns etc. he was really patient lah.. and when we answered correctly he was like yeah zats right and continued expaining. Ah. Will miss having this kind of 1:4 ratio. He’s really nice. Oh yah. Before lunch Natasha said her partner probably from china.. so I asked what cca and she said Chinese club or smth. Haha. Was wondering, cause rj doesn’t have Chinese drama or what lah. so after lunch during one of those 5min waiting time I was talking to Natasha, asked abt her cca and she told me slack club haha. So cute. Then after that I asked him, cause after lunch Natasha said he was from co. so anyway he’s the yiting batch. (: Around 3 we had to incubate cells for another 1 hr.. so the scientists brought us around for a look. We went to their real lab, saw prof hong. Haha. He looks younger than in his photo. Anyway cause the rg ppl were at the back and rj was in front of us.. so couldn’t see into the workstation when the rest were waving to prof hong. I said smth like I can’t see a damn thing lor and the co guy just started laughing lor! I’m like, what’s so funny.. he really laugh like.. I dunno. Haha. Oh zhiyi wanted to er.. trap/put/push me into a dark room, which apparently is not very nice. Weiliang went in and came out quite fast, zhiyi and my also. Haha. then we also passed by the cold room, 4deg I think. Cool. I can feel how cold it is from outside, dint even bother going in haha. Went down to basement.. I think it’s connected to a few buildings. It’s huge, easy to get lost haha. And well, the stuff down there is cool. Kitchen, dishwashing, etc. haha. then we went to see the auditorium.. very nice. Very orange. Heh. Went back, completed the rest of the process. And wow, didn’t know staining took so much effort. Finished up and mounted the coverslips on the slides. And wooh, we put varnish to prevent the slips from drying or smth. Now it’s in the fridge.. we get to look at it tmr. (: hope it turns out well, after so much effort. After that ron wanted to take a photo for us, but erm everyone was dilly dallying etc. before that me and samatha were saying he looked pissed, then suddenly he just shouted loudly and asked if we wanted to take pic or not lah. Then he was scolding us for doing our own stuff and not listening etc. >.< Anyway we took a photo, ron was funny.. kept telling us no flash. Haha. And kept making us wait. Anyway yay he says he’ll give us the photos tmr.. (: Hehe cleared up and left. This time we made sure the uncle was going to the mrt when we boarded. The rj guys dint come up, but they were looking at us from outside. Started mouthing the word m-r-t to them, finally they came up. -.- and kept asking if we were sure, and bukit panjang was also on the bus haha. but got a shock halfway, cause the uncle turned away from the mrt. Then we found out he was going to make a turn haha. Hmm tmr cannot be late. So paiseh haha. I think should go early to write smth in the logbook lah. (: last day le. It’s been fun.
